A gym aboard a charter yacht has shifted from an indulgence to something close to expected on anything above forty metres. Guests who train four times a week at home rarely want to stop for a fortnight, and crews have noticed. The equipment is now specified at the design stage rather than squeezed in later.
The interpretation varies widely. In the mid thirties a gym is often a convertible space, a shaded corner of the sun deck with a treadmill, a rower and a rack of free weights that stows when the table goes down for lunch. From around forty five metres it becomes a dedicated room with sea views, mirrored bulkheads and air conditioning sized for the purpose. On the largest yachts it sits alongside the spa as part of a wellness deck.
One hundred and ninety yachts in our charter fleet carry a gym, spanning thirty two metres to over one hundred and twenty. Weekly rates open near sixty seven thousand euros, sit around two hundred and ninety thousand through the middle of the fleet and climb beyond a million at the top, plus an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent.
Ask what is actually installed, because the word covers a folding bench and a full Technogym suite equally. Ask too whether a trainer or yoga instructor can join the crew for the week, which most yachts of this size will arrange with notice. Tell us your dates and how you train, and we will match the two.
