Staniel Cay is the most practical logistics base in the central Exumas, and explorer yachts use it accordingly: fuel at the dock, provisioning from the small settlement, and a starting point for extended dives and kayaking expeditions into less-visited corners of the Exumas Land and Sea Park. Explorer yachts have the range and self-sufficiency to venture beyond Staniel Cay immediate neighbourhood, to the blue holes east of Compass Cay, to the uninhabited cays south of Black Point Settlement, and to the offshore Bahamian banks where few yachts venture. The explorer charter fleet available for a Staniel Cay charter numbers approximately 15 published yachts, typically steel or aluminium expedition vessels with full SCUBA equipment, large tenders, stabilisers at anchor and enough fresh water capacity to run for five to seven days without reprovisioning. Weekly charter rates range from around 75,000 euros to 450,000 euros. The advance provisioning allowance of approximately 30 percent covers provisions, fuel, dive equipment and the Bahamian cruising permit.
