Virgin Gorda is one of the British Virgin Islands most distinctive destinations, an island where the northeastern tip dissolves into the chaotic granite formations of The Baths, one of the Caribbean most photographed natural landmarks. Motor yachts charter this island with a fleet of 162 vessels able to take advantage of deep-water anchorages in North Sound, the protected waters of Gorda Sound and the marina facilities at Bitter End Yacht Club. The Baths deserve more than a day pass: arriving by tender before the tour boat crowd gathers and staying for lunch at the rocky pools that form between the boulders is a pleasure that charter guests have the latitude to arrange. North Sound, enclosed on three sides by hills, provides one of the most secure overnight anchorages in the BVI and is home to a cluster of beach bars and restaurants accessible only by dinghy or tender. Gun Creek and Leverick Bay provide provisioning and fuel without requiring a passage back to Road Town. Motor yachts with a beam above 8 metres should check draft against The Baths approach in advance; the snorkel area is reached by tender rather than by bringing the yacht close to the boulders. Weekly rates for motor yachts covering the Virgin Gorda area start at around 50,000 euros per week for smaller vessels and rise past 500,000 euros for the largest superyachts, with an advance provisioning allowance of roughly 30% for fuel, food and marina fees. The season peaks December through April with summer a quieter and more affordable alternative for guests happy to sail outside school holidays.
