St Tropez Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in St Tropez, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
What's the best time to charter in Saint-Tropez?

June through September carries the main season, with July and August the busiest and hottest, water temperatures reaching around 24-25°C. Late September into early October brings Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, when the gulf fills with racing yachts and the town’s restaurants book out well ahead. May and June offer a calmer, still-warm alternative with easier moorings at the Vieux Port and shorter waits at the beach clubs along Pampelonne.

How do you get to Saint-Tropez by air?

La Môle-Saint-Tropez Airport, about 15 kilometres away, is the closest, though it runs limited seasonal and private flights rather than a full commercial schedule. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, roughly two hours away by road, handles the most international traffic and is the usual entry point, while Toulon-Hyères sits a little closer at around an hour’s drive. Many guests fly into Nice and transfer by car, helicopter or a scenic drive along the coast.

Where should I anchor near Saint-Tropez?

The Vieux Port puts guests in the centre of town but has limited stern-to berths that fill fast in peak season, especially during Les Voiles. Pampelonne, along the coast toward Ramatuelle, offers open anchorage close to the beach clubs, while Baie des Canebiers on the peninsula’s northern side gives a quieter, more residential alternative a short tender ride from the harbour. Port Grimaud, across the gulf, is a practical fallback when Saint-Tropez itself is full.

How many days should I plan for Saint-Tropez?

Three to four days covers the town well: a morning in the old quarter, an afternoon at a Pampelonne beach club, and an evening at the port to watch the yachts come and go. Many charters extend that into a week by combining Saint-Tropez with Port Grimaud, Sainte-Maxime and the wider Golfe de Saint-Tropez, or continue west toward Cavalaire and the Îles d’Hyères.

What's the nightlife like in Saint-Tropez, and do I need reservations?

Saint-Tropez’s clubs, Les Caves du Roy chief among them, run from June through September and draw a late crowd that starts well after midnight. Tables at both the beach clubs by day and the clubs by night are typically booked weeks ahead in high season, and most yachts arrange them through a concierge or broker rather than walking in. Dress codes are enforced, and the busiest nights cluster around weekends in July and August.
