Folegandros Superyacht Charter

Folegandros is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt islands in the Cyclades, a dramatic outcrop of cliffs and whitewashed villages that has retained its authentic character while its neighbours have grown famous. For those seeking the timeless charm of the Greek islands away from the crowds, it is a true gem.

The island’s main village, Chora, is considered one of the loveliest in the Cyclades, perched spectacularly on the edge of a cliff and threaded with flower-filled squares and traditional tavernas. Above it, a whitewashed church commands breathtaking views over the deep blue sea far below.

Folegandros offers a rugged and beautiful coastline of dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and clear water, best explored from the sea. Quiet beaches, excellent local cuisine and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere make it a refreshing and authentic escape.

With its dramatic scenery, beautiful villages and unspoilt charm, Folegandros captures the timeless spirit of the Cyclades. Guests can anchor beneath its towering cliffs, wander its lovely Chora and enjoy the quiet, authentic beauty of one of Greece’s hidden treasures.

Peaceful, dramatic and beautifully preserved, it is a place to slow down and savour the timeless rhythm of island life beneath a canopy of stars.

Folegandros Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Folegandros, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to charter a yacht around Folegandros?

The sailing season runs from May to October, with July and August the warmest but also the windiest, as the meltemi can bring strong northerly gusts through the Cyclades. Many yacht guests prefer June or September, when the sea is calm, the light is soft for the cliffside walk to Panagia, and Chora’s squares are far less crowded than at the height of summer.

Folegandros has no airport, so how do we get there to join the yacht?

The closest airport is on Santorini, under an hour’s flying time from Athens with daily connections in season. From there guests take a high-speed ferry to Karavostasis, Folegandros’s small port, a crossing of one to three hours depending on the vessel. Many charters simply arrange to embark directly in Santorini and sail across, saving the ferry transfer entirely.

Which bays and anchorages work best for a yacht off Folegandros?

Karavostasis, the main port, offers reliable holding and easy access to Chora by taxi or the local bus. For something quieter, Agkali Bay and the neighbouring cove of Livadaki both offer good shelter and calm swimming, while Katergo, tucked beneath high cliffs on the south coast, is reachable only by tender or a short hiking trail, keeping it one of the least crowded anchorages on the island.

How many days should we plan to spend at Folegandros?

Two nights at anchor is generally enough to take in Chora, the Kastro and Ano Meria without feeling rushed, plus a full day for the beaches at Agkali, Livadaki and Katergo. Folegandros rewards a slower pace better than most Cycladic islands, since much of its character lies in the walk between villages rather than in any single sight, so charters combining it with Milos or Santorini often stretch it to three.

Is Folegandros walkable without a car, and what is the hiking like?

Very much so. A network of old stone paths, once used by donkeys moving goods between villages, still connects Chora, Ano Meria and the coast, and many are now waymarked for walkers. The most rewarding is the roughly fifteen-minute climb from Pounda Square to the church of Panagia, which opens onto a sweeping view over Chora and the sea. Sturdy shoes are worth packing even for a short stay.
