Naxos Superyacht Charter

Naxos is the largest and greenest of the Cyclades, a beautiful and fertile island that combines superb beaches, ancient monuments and traditional mountain villages. Less glamorous but more varied than some of its neighbours, it offers an authentic and rewarding taste of the Greek islands.

The island is famous for its iconic Portara, a great marble doorway from an unfinished ancient temple that stands sentinel at the harbour entrance, glowing golden at sunset. Behind the lively main town lies a fertile interior of olive groves, vineyards and mountain villages where traditional life endures.

Naxos boasts some of the finest and longest sandy beaches in the Cyclades, with clear, shallow water ideal for swimming and watersports. The surrounding coastline offers sheltered bays and clear coves, while neighbouring islands such as Paros and the Small Cyclades lie within easy reach.

With its beautiful beaches, rich history and authentic character, Naxos is one of the most rewarding of the Cyclades. Guests can anchor off golden sands, explore ancient temples and mountain villages and enjoy the natural abundance of this green and beautiful island.

Naxos Charter Guide

Everything you need to know before chartering a yacht in Naxos, from the best time to visit to where to drop anchor.
When is the best time to sail to Naxos?

The season runs May to October. Naxos sits squarely in the path of the meltemi, so July and August can bring strong, steady winds, which is exactly what draws kitesurfers to Mikri Vigla but can make some anchorages uncomfortable for a stopover. June and September offer calmer conditions overall while keeping enough reliable wind for guests who want to sail rather than motor.

Does Naxos have an airport, and how do we get there?

Yes. Naxos Airport (JNX) receives daily flights from Athens with Olympic Air and Sky Express, a journey of well under an hour, plus seasonal links to Thessaloniki and Heraklion. High-speed ferries also run from Piraeus in around three and a half hours, making Naxos one of the more straightforward Cyclades islands to reach directly rather than via Santorini or Mykonos.

Which bays are best for anchoring a yacht off Naxos?

Plaka Beach, just south of Naxos Town, has good holding in soft sand and easy tender access to the harbour. Alyko and Pyrgaki, further down the west coast, are quieter with excellent water clarity, while Mikri Vigla suits a shorter stop given the wind. On the north coast, Apollonas offers a scenic overnight option within walking distance of the giant kouros statue.

How many days do we need to see Naxos properly?

Three to four days suits Naxos well, since it is the largest island in the Cyclades and its highlights, the Portara, the mountain villages, the Temple of Demeter and the long west-coast beaches, are spread across quite different parts of the island. Guests short on time often focus on the coast between Naxos Town and Mikri Vigla and save the mountain villages for a later visit.

Is it possible to hike Mount Zas from the yacht?

Yes, and it is one of the more rewarding excursions on the island. At 1,001 metres, Zas is the highest peak in the Cyclades, and the main trail begins near the village of Filoti, roughly a two to three hour round trip on a clear path past the cave where, according to legend, Zeus was raised. Guests usually arrange a short taxi transfer from the coast to the trailhead.
