Chartering with children is a different exercise from chartering without them, and the yachts that do it well are not always the ones that look best in a brochure. Our family charter fleet is selected around the practical questions, whether the layout keeps small children close, whether the crew genuinely enjoy having them aboard, and whether the water toys suit a six year old as well as a sixteen year old.
Layout matters most. Look for cabins that convert to twins or add a pullman berth, interconnecting rooms, and a master positioned near the guest accommodation rather than a deck away. Netting around the aft deck and sun deck is straightforward for a good crew to rig, and many of our family yachts carry it as standard. Shaded deck space matters more than an extra sunbed when the group includes toddlers.
The equipment list separates the fleet quickly. Inflatable slides and towable toys keep younger children busy for hours, seabobs and e-foils occupy teenagers, and a swim platform with a proper ladder and a shelving beach club makes the water accessible to weaker swimmers. Crews with lifeguard or divemaster qualifications are worth asking for by name.
Rates across our family fleet span roughly fifty thousand to four hundred thousand euros a week plus expenses. The Adriatic, the Balearics and the Bahamas suit families particularly well, with short passages, sheltered anchorages and reliably calm afternoons.
