A steam room is the wet counterpart to the sauna, and on a yacht it is the harder of the two to build. Saturated air at forty five degrees has to be contained, drained and ventilated inside a hull that moves and flexes, which is why the room only appears once a yacht has enough volume to give a wellness suite proper deck space of its own.
Forty five yachts in our charter fleet carry one. They run from thirty seven metres to a hundred and twenty six, with the median close to seventy, and the yards behind them are the familiar names, Feadship, Amels, Lürssen and Benetti. Most installations are tiled or lined in honed stone, seat four to six, and sit on the lower deck beside a sauna, a cold shower and a treatment room, a few steps from the sea.
Weekly rates open near ninety five thousand euros, sit around six hundred and eighty thousand through the middle of the fleet and reach three million at the top, plus an advance provisioning allowance near thirty percent covering fuel, food, berthing and drinks.
The room earns its place in the shoulder season and at the end of a long day in the wind. May in the Balearics, October in the Aegean, or the far side of an Atlantic crossing when salt and sun have done their work.
